Why Quick Fixes Fail for Chronic Pain (And What to Do Instead)

Back Pain

If you’re struggling with chronic pain, you’ve likely tried everything—painkillers, braces, stretches, or even surgery.

Yet, the pain keeps coming back. Why? Because most conventional treatments focus on symptoms rather than root causes.

In this post, we’ll break down why quick fixes fail and what actually works for long-term pain relief.

Why Painkillers, Braces, and Passive Treatments Fall Short

Many people rely on pain medications or external supports like braces, but these only offer temporary relief. Here’s why:

  1. Painkillers Mask the Problem – Medications don’t fix movement dysfunctions which are the major contributor to pain. They just dull pain signals, allowing the underlying issue to worsen over time.
  2. Braces don’t work – a brace may stop you from moving in ways that aggravate your pain but often also leading to compensatory patterns and further imbalance that can worsen pain over time and make you weaker too.
  3. Passive Treatments Don’t Create Lasting Change – Chiropractors, massage guns, hot/cold therapy, and stretching may feel good temporarily, but they don’t address faulty movement patterns causing the pain

What’s the Alternative?

Instead of masking pain, identify and correct movement dysfunctions.

Focus on improving posture, gait, integrating your body during movement . These factors play a critical role in pain-free movement.

A great first step is auditing your triggers: what movements make your pain worse? Avoiding aggravators or at least modifying them is one piece of the puzzle. Correcting movement dysfunction is key to long-term improvement.

Next Steps

If you’re serious about getting out of pain, start by:

✅ Assessing your movement patterns and posture – One simple but important sign is seeing whether your ribs and hips are properly stacked  when you stand. In the before and after here, the before picture shows my client’s hips and ribs not stacking up well and this was when she was dealing with severe back pain. By working together we were able to improve her core function and improve this stacking which helped decrease her back pain.

✅ Trying the FP 10-Week Course – A structured way to improve biomechanics and get out of pain.

✅ Booking a consultation with me – Expert guidance ensures you’re on the right path.
